AppWT manuals across the United Kingdom

The catalogue reaches all four nations, and a British reader meets exactly two frictions that an American reader never notices: the sheet the pages were set on, and the currency the card is billed in. Both are described below in full, along with an honest note on where American source material stops being transferable.

87titles, every one a PDF

Sheet size, stated precisely

The pages are set on US Letter, 8.5 by 11 inches, or 216 by 279 millimetres. A4, the sheet in every British office tray, measures 210 by 297 millimetres. US Letter is therefore 6 millimetres wider and 18 millimetres shorter. The difference is small but it is not nothing, and a default print run will either clip a margin or leave an uneven one. Selecting the scale to fit option in the print dialogue resolves it. Reading on screen is unaffected, and most readers never print a full manual at all.

The printed edition answers the sheet question a different way

Everything above concerns printing the PDF yourself. Selected titles are also sold as a ready made book, and it is built to one house specification: US Letter, 8.5 by 11 inches, roughly 216 by 279 millimetres, on 80 pound coated white stock with a glossy cover. That is the same sheet the pages were laid out on, which is the point. Nothing is scaled and no margin is at risk, because the book is printed at the size the manual was designed for rather than fitted to a different one. A British reader should simply expect a volume slightly wider and shorter than A4 on the shelf.

Binding does not vary with length or with preference. Every title is a perfect bound paperback.

It ships to the United Kingdom, one of the four countries the printed edition is sold into. The printed edition also includes the PDF, so reading can begin at the moment of purchase rather than when the parcel lands. Not every title is offered in print, because perfect binding needs a spine and a manual shorter than 32 pages cannot be bound.

What is deliberately not stated here. AppWT publishes no delivery window for the United Kingdom and makes no claim about how import charges or VAT are treated on a printed book, because neither figure is set by AppWT and neither could be evidenced. The amount charged is shown by the payment page before the payment is confirmed, and the delivery address is collected and validated there rather than by this site.

Currency, and why no sterling figure is published

Checkout is denominated in US dollars for every market. A card issued in the United Kingdom is authorised in US dollars, and the issuing bank converts it. Publishing a sterling price would mean publishing a number AppWT does not control and cannot honour, because the rate belongs to the issuer and moves daily. The dollar figure shown at checkout is the only one AppWT can stand behind, so it is the only one shown.

Where American source material stops travelling

The library is written from Livonia, Michigan, to American operating practice. Method transfers cleanly: how a procedure gets written down, how it is tested against a real shift, how it is handed to somebody new without the founder in the room. Regulation does not transfer. Employment law, tax treatment, data protection duties and statutory record keeping are all written to American rules here, and a British operator should check each of those against domestic requirements before adopting anything from a manual as policy. That limitation is published rather than buried.

Nations and towns on file

These are the parts of the United Kingdom where AppWT holds researched detail on individual towns and cities. The Isle of Man is recognised in the store at the regional level and so does not appear with a town count below.

Common questions

Will an AppWT manual print correctly on A4?

It needs one setting changed. The pages are set on US Letter, which measures 216 by 279 millimetres, while A4 measures 210 by 297. US Letter is therefore 6 millimetres wider and 18 millimetres shorter than A4. A British printer will not match those margins on its default setting, so choose the scale to fit or shrink to printable area option in the print dialogue before sending a long manual to the tray.

Does the sheet size matter if the manual is read on screen?

No. On a laptop, tablet or phone the page simply fills the viewport and the A4 question never arises. The sheet size only becomes relevant at the moment somebody decides to print a copy for a folder or a training session.

Is the content written for British regulation?

No, and that is worth stating plainly. The library is written from a Michigan base to American operating practice. The method in each manual travels, because writing a procedure, testing it and handing it to a team works the same way in Leeds as it does in Detroit. Anything touching employment law, tax, data protection or statutory record keeping is written to American rules and should be checked against British ones before it is adopted.

What currency is a British card charged in?

US dollars. Checkout is denominated in US dollars for every market, so a card issued in the United Kingdom is billed in US dollars and the issuing bank applies its own conversion rate. AppWT does not publish a sterling equivalent, because the figure that lands on the statement is the issuer's, not the publisher's.

Which parts of the United Kingdom does AppWT hold local detail for?

All four nations. Local business detail is on file for 55 towns and cities across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and the Isle of Man is held at the regional level.
