What's Inside

  1. Part I — The AI Visibility Problem: Why Google is no longer enough; the citation gap between organic search and AI answers; what 'invisible to AI' actually means.
  2. Part II — The 5-Minute Audit: Run 5 tests in your browser to find out where you stand. The same audit AppWT runs for every new client.
  3. Part III — Schema.org Mastery: 10 markup mistakes that block AI citation. Working examples for Organization, LocalBusiness, Service, FAQPage, Speakable, and AggregateRating.
  4. Part IV — llms.txt and ai.txt: The two emerging standards AI crawlers respect. How to author them, how to maintain them, what to put inside.
  5. Part V — robots.txt for AI: Which AI bots to allow (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended, Applebot-Extended) and why blocking them is silent business suicide.
  6. Part VI — Speakable + Voice Search: How voice assistants pick which content to read aloud, and how Speakable schema gives you a 10x advantage on FAQ + About pages.
  7. Part VII — Content Patterns AI Loves: Question-led headings, short answer paragraphs, bullet-point structures, and the BLUF framework that makes content quotable.
  8. Part VIII — Schema for Service-Area Businesses: When LocalBusiness is wrong, when Service + areaServed is right, and how to fix Google Business Profile signals.
  9. Part IX — Monitoring + Measuring AI Citations: Tools and patterns for verifying your business actually shows up in AI answers. What to track, what to ignore.
  10. Part X — Case Studies + Templates: Real-world client wins (appwt.com, prismaticflowers.com, lacompagniemdt.com) with before/after schema diffs and citation gains.

Sample from Chapter 3 — The Schema.org Pattern That Doubled Our Citation Rate

The single highest-leverage change AppWT ever made to its own website was adding consistent @id anchors across every Organization and LocalBusiness schema block. Before the change, Perplexity treated our About page, our Services page, and our Contact page as three separate entities. After the change — same content, same business — Perplexity unified the three under one identity, and our citation count tripled within 60 days.

The fix takes about 15 minutes per site. Pick a canonical @id URL (we use https://appwt.com/#organization) and use it in every Schema.org block that represents your business. Every Service block then references that @id through its provider property:

{
  "@context": "https://schema.org",
  "@type": "Service",
  "name": "AI Visibility Audit",
  "provider": {
    "@id": "https://appwt.com/#organization"
  },
  "areaServed": "United States"
}

The @id pattern is invisible to your customers — it's a backend convention for AI engines and structured-data parsers. But it's the difference between "fragmented entity" and "unified brand authority." Every AppWT-managed site uses it.
